Thinking Bose Wave?, 4/10/2010

Listen to the BA Solo first! I also own a Wave and was looking for a second unit for another room when I came across the BA Solo. The Solo sounds as good as the Wave at 1/5 the price. I am so glad I saved $400!

I really like this radio. Clean sound, intuitive controls (it's by my bed and I can operate it w/o having to look at it), substantial feel. One suggestion: its design, though inoffensive (unlike many radios which look like something from the Star Wars back lot), is pretty ordinary. Why not offer such a fine radio in a more high style case? Small tabletop radios have a history of memorable designs--think the bakelite designs of mid-century. This radio in a more beautiful case could be the perfect blend of form and function. I'd pay a premium for it.

I wanted a radio with excellent sound for the kitchen but was unwilling to pay the outrageous price for a Bose. I still have a set of BA computer speakers that I love so when I saw the Solo I had to try it out. I test-listened against the Bose Wave and it's every bit as good. I've had it for two years now and I am still amazed at the rich sound every time I turn it on. I don't care about the clock/alarm functions (I'm retired) but they work exactly as advertised (I know because my daughter turned the alarm on as a joke the other day). The display is bright enough in sunlight but doesn't blind me if I go into the kitchen late at night with the light off. Highly recommended.

Best Choice in Clock Radios, 8/24/2009

I have had this radio for more than 6 months now. I was pleased to find it after a lot of disappointment in what else is on the market. Only the Tivoli clock radios seem to compare in quality. The Solo's controls are intuitive and fast to operate. However the snooze bar is too sensitive, adding 10 minutes on each touch up to 60 minutes. I have overslept a couple of times because of this. The dealer replaced my first Solo, but the replacement also has this "defect." At a third of the price of Tivoli, I recommend the Solo despite the sensitivity defect. In face, if BA fixes this I will gladly buy another one.

This was purchased for me as a Christmas gift seven months ago. The sound has always had a lot of static but now, even on maximum sound, it can only be heard 1 foot away! ...a big disappointment. I don't recommend it at all and will go buy a different radio!

I purchased my Solo about a year ago as an alarm clock. The first thing I noticed was the sound quality which is more than excellent. I tried other manufacturer but none compares to it. The snooze bar is amazing too! It's worth every peny! Mario

This radio produces a rich sound that is amazing considering the size of the radio. It is solidly build. I love the design.

I bought this unit to listen to the radio at work and my Ipod. Right off the back, don't let the 3 inch speaker fool you. This thing is full range in every since of the word. I took back my JBL 2100D Ipod dock. The JBL sounded good, but compared to the BA, there was no comparison. I mean the sound was so much richer, I may take it back and step up to the Duo i. I love a product that makes me want to listen to more music and makes music much more enjoyable. Funny thing too, this thing is rock solid and weighs a mini-ton. The tuner is okay, but it is hard to tell in my office building. I am going to try out an aftermarket antenna, to see if FM and AM improves. If you this in your bedroom, you will "rock" yourself to sleep.

This is such a good radio, the sound is amazing! Very clear highs, powerful base. I want one for every room in the house. I did go buy another Boston Acoustics radio, different model and it was rqually amazing. I now want to get one with an ipod docking station. Keep up th great audio engineering!

For what this is and what it was designed to do, it is excellant. You could hardly ask a clock radio to do more, or sound better doing it.

Can I tell you how thrilled I am with this product? I shopped around for weeks, even ordered and returned another brand, before finding this gem. I didn't want anything huge but I wanted good sound and a nice look. The sound quality is amazing - full and rich. It picks up FM stations so well - even before I extended the little antenna wire. the controls are super-intuitive and easy. but most of all - it has a very cool, retro modern, look that I love. The alarm has that gradual increase feature, which was a must have for me. All in all, SO glad I found this. I ordered it from this site and it got to me in just a couple of days.

I bought this radio at Best Buy a few months ago. It worked fine for awhile. Now the volume will not go above "10". The controls are overly sensitive, and the screen display is faint. A big disappointment.

I bought this radio for work. I was wanting something for a small space and the ability to use it vertically or horizontally is great. This radio has sound as good as my bose wave radio, extremely easy to use and program. I can use headphones or connect my zune to the system. It is everything and more than I wanted and needed. Lots of bang for the buck.

What a fantastic little radio. I saw this unit in a Target store and was immediately intrigued. Being the skeptic that I am, I had to return home to read a few reviews about it first. Needless to say, I returned to pick it up. I know it's not the most popular media source today, but I still love radio. AM and FM. This Horizon Solo produces some of the clearest audio I have ever heard out of a unit this size. The old Receptor was great, but this is an improvement. It has quite a few more features, but what really catches you off guard is the sound. It's amazing! Clear highs, deep, but not "boomy" (unless you want it to be) bass. Perfect. The one drawback I would say is the amount of presets. There's 20. That's good enough for me, I have all 20 filled, but I'm in Minnesota. I would assume there are far more stations in other areas that would benefit from more presets. Still, it's hard for me to fault it for that when everything else has far exceeded my expectations. It's also quite a stylish unit if you're into that sort of thing. I'm not, but with automatic display-brightness adjusting and custom colored grilles, it can make quite an artistic statement if that's what you're after. And honestly, I've been eying that caramel grille and may have to order one. Bottom line, if you've gone through a few small tabletop radios only to be disappointed with tinny, shallow sound, I'd give this one a try. At the very least, check it out on a display shelf at Target. The sound quality will shock you.

This unit is "stout" with what appears to be excellent components. The rotating face was not my driver for purchase though it may be useful in the future. I fully enjoyed the sound it produced in my workshop whether it was soft or a bit louder with no distortion. After about 8 months I noticed that the reception on AM(My primary stations)was getting poor and the volume eventually malfunctioned to 00 dB.
