Deep Channel® Design (DCD) poly cones, soft-dome tweeters and second-order crossover networks offer clean, distinct dialog, while the down-firing subwoofer delivers floor-rumbling special effects. Gently-curved front baffles and open side grilles reduce diffraction loss. Phase plugs ensure smoother overall response. And large Xmax coefficients improve linearity.

  • Three dual 3.5-inch LCR speakers, two 3.5-inch satellites and 200 watt-powered subwoofer
  • 1-inch soft dome tweeters
  • Deep Channel® Design (DCD) for more bass from less amplifier power
  • Reduced Baffle Diffraction Design (RBDD) for wider, smoother dispersion
  • MagnaGuard® video shielding (except subwoofer)
  • 5-way gold-plated binding posts (except subwoofer)
  • Adjustable footings
  • Built-in wall mount brackets (except subwoofer)

sounds very good but there's quality control issues, 12/24/2008

4 stars for sound and functionality 2 stars for quality control The sound quality of this 5.1 system if very good. It has well defined vocals, clean, highs and good mid bass (percussion) definition. It has a nice non slip feel due to the rubberized paint. It has very well thought out functionalities such as removable stand(s), built-in wall mount(s) and screw/banana plug speaker wire terminals. Other people have called these some of the ugliest looking speakers. Yes, they do look un-attractive right out of the box. However, once mounted in the speaker stand and placed to their respective locations they actually look better than other "designer" style speakers. For the most part all I can see is the rectangular grill, which is a blend of modern and traditional styles. However, the subwoofer is another story. It does look very unattractive. Although it appears to be slowly growing on me. Perhaps the over all sound of this 5.1 set makes up for its looks. Unfortunately, Boston Acoustics seems to have a very poor quality control system. I went through four new sets and encountered at least one problem with each of the four sets. The first set has a 4 mm hole on the rear speaker fabric cover and the subwoofer hums louder than normal and makes a strange (squelch like) sound for half a second when automatically going from active to standby mode. On the second set, the subwoofer would not automatically switch from active to standby mode. Even after an hour the receiver has been off. The third set had a front speaker that had something lose inside the speaker housing. And the woofer had some minor paint over spray. Although it appears to be the best performing subwoofer out of the four sets. The fourth set had a subwoofer that put out a weak bass punch compared to the previous 3 subwoofers. To BA, please do not ruin your speakers with BAD QUALITY CONTROL!!!

I always new that Boston Acoustics made great speakers but now that I have my new surround sound system I am completely blown away. These speakers put out some incredible sound! They have great lows and highs! I'm so glad I bought them!

I bought this package to upgrade my aging surround speaker package. I thought I had all the bases covered with my last setup but man was I wrong. After everything was hooked up I put in Black Hawk down (one of my favorite movies). I know that movie inside and out (watched it over 30 times) and I heard things that I never even knew were there. For the very first time seeing that movie with this new speaker package hnooked up I felt like I was there inside the action. I found myself almost ducking as the bullets whizzed by. Phenominal performance for the price. Music was very detailed and clear as well. I did not have to adjust the treble like on my old system for harshness after extended listening. Again, very impressed to say the least. Great product.

"We got acquainted with the MCS 130 by playing the Seabiscuit Blu-ray. The little MCS satellites cruised through the horse racing scenes with grace. The thundering gallop of the horses was nicely balanced against the distant sound of the cheering crowds." - CNET, July 2008
